It’s been a long year. And I am excited for 2016. This year has taught me many new lessons, it’s had its ups and downs and I am grateful that I was able to witness and experience everything I did. As 2015 comes to an end and the new year approaches I want to remind myself to let go of anything that has held me back from completely reaching my full potential as a being during this year. And hopefully serves as a reminder to all my readers too.
There is no place in 2016 for:
1. Negativity
When your mind is cluttered by negative thoughts, happiness is hard to obtain. Bad things happen all the time but how we react to them, is what ultimately determines their final effect on us. Don’t take negative people seriously because their negative attitude is a projection of their own reality. Surround yourself with people who bring out the best in you, who support you, people who love and respect you, people who encourage you to achieve your goals and who make your day a little brighter just by being in it.
2. Procrastination
I’ve been guilty of this destructive habit all year long. Everyone is guilty of this, sometimes. And maybe it’s the perfectionist in me that needs everything to be perfect in order for me to begin a task or even make a decision- I don’t know. Even this post took me much longer to write than it should have because I spend hours looking at previous posts and then one thing leads to the other and then I’m on YouTube watching macrame tutorials because it just seems like an much easier task. Ultimately, procrastination is the thief of time and in reality you are only holding yourself back when you procrastinate.
3. Toxic People
They just come along and create unnecessary stress. This is why it is important to be aware of them and stay clear. Don’t let others take advantage of you. The more you value yourself, the less time you will want to spend with people who don’t value you. Some people are just not good for you and that has nothing to do with you. Tighten your boundaries by loving and being kind to yourself by being very clear about what you will tolerate and what you won’t.
4. Self-doubt
We will all experience self-doubt at some point because we can’t completely avoid it but use criticism to improve yourself and do not let it lower your self-esteem or make you angry. With the right attitude you can make any goal a reality. It’s all a matter of perspective. Always believe in yourself and don’t be pulled back by self-doubt.
5. Assumptions
Many of our problems are caused by how we process what happens around us. Find the courage to ask questions first, express how you truly feel and communicate clearly. Be humble enough to admit that you do not know it all. This will avoid so much misunderstanding, drama and sadness. Be kind and courteous in dealing with others because everyone is fighting a different battle.
Happiness, contentment, gratitude- it’s all a choice we make and I want to become a better me physically, mentally and spiritually. There is wisdom that comes from experience that can not be found anywhere else. I am excited for everything 2016 has in store for me.
Happy New Year!
Thank you for reading and keep smiling,
